Electronic Health Record (EHR)

Cardiovascular Associates of the Peninsula maintains all patient records on a state of the art EHR system.  This permits us immediate access to your personal records at the office or at the hospital.  There are no more delays because we are “looking for the chart”. All our records and reports are generated in a digital format and stored on a local computer as well as at a secure remote backup facility.  The records are not transmitted over a public internet connection and meet stringent federal privacy standards.  Outside records are scanned or faxed directly into your EHR where they are stored as digital images.  Following your office visit, your office note is created by electronically merging pertinent clinical records with a dictation created by your cardiologist using a voice recognition system.  Typically, the note will be completed and faxed to your primary care physician within minutes.

But the benefits of the EHR extend beyond simply smooth and rapid access to your medical records.  Because much of the data is in digital format, we can easily track over time multiple measures of health, such as blood pressure and cholestrol levels.  This allows us to assure that clinically indicated studies are performed at the appropriate intervals.  Your medication prescriptions are generated electronically, eliminating errors due to physicians’ notoriously illegible handwriting.

Don’t forget this is your medical record.  We can readily print out a paper copy of selected reports for your files or even the entire EHR if necessary.  Finally, patients who travel might wish to purchase a portable digital copy of their records. We can reformat your medical record and place in on a small USB Memory Keychain, so that you have password protected access to your records on nearly any computer, whereever you might be traveling.
