About the Program

The Women’s Heart Health program at Cardiovascular Associates of the Peninsula provides personalized risk assessment and diagnostic evaluation of heart disease. The program is designed to help women reduce the chance of heart disease through a preventive approach, including state of the art screening and diagnostic testing. Located in Burlingame, California it is a one-of-kind program in San Mateo County specifically designed for women. The Women’s Heart Health program is directed by Dr. Tania Nanevicz, M.D. a board certified cardiologist with a special interest in women and heart disease. She received her training in cardiology at UCSF where she was on faculty until joining the Cardiovascular Associates practice. She has taken a leadership role at Mills-Peninsula Health Services as the physician champion for the Women’s Heart Advantage.

Personalized Risk Assessment and Diagnostic Evaluation

Because cardiovascular disease is such a comm. On disease all women should have an evaluation of their risk factors or symptoms of heart disease. The cardiologist and cardiology nurse practitioner will review your medical history, risk assessment, laboratory tests to develop a individualized plan. Additional testing may be indicated and this may include:

  • Electrocardiogram (EKG)
  • Specialty blood testing for inherited disorders
  • Exercise stress testing
  • Stress radionuclide perfusion
  • Coronary angiography
  • Carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) scan
  • Tilt table testing
  • Electrophysiology Testing

Risk Management by Experts in Women’s Heart Health

The traditional risk factors for heart disease are similar between men and women. There are differences in how strongly they affect women, and some risk factors (such as premature menopause or pregnancy-related conditions) uniquely impact women. The staff of the Women’s Heart Health program is knowledgeable about these differences and helps patients and their primary care physicians understand and manage their heart disease risk.
